Excelerated Speed Helmet Cam Video – Boone County Fair

This is my second video from the August 10, 2016 Boone County Fair.  I decided to race my six year old mare in the Free for All pace.  There were four horses in the race and we finished third.  It was really just a bad drive as she should have been first, at worst second.  I just can’t get her to go fast…  Seems she has no respect for me and decided she really didn’t need to try the last half of the mile.

You may wonder why I didn’t use the whip on her..  If I would have hit her she would have stopped right where I hit her and probably taken me to the dirt…  So she is one that you can only threaten with a whip.

Storm Winds Helmet Cam Video – Boone County Fair

Here is a helmet cam video from August 10, 2016 of my three year old trotter racing at the Boone county fair.  No criticisms please on the talent of the driver, I am happy that I have another line of work that feeds me – if I had to rely on my own driving skills I would not eat much.

If you are unfamiliar with harness racing this, and the next video I post give you a pretty good idea of the speeds and effort the horses put in.  All that’s missing is the dirt, hair and sweat in your face and the feel of the bikes tires sliding out through the turns.

Stormy and I held on for third even off a few breaks, I am pretty sure I choked him down the backside causing the break.  I should have moved him to the outside.

I wish I did a better job of aiming the camera.  This video captures two training trips.  For people that don’t know Harness racing that well.  A trip is a mile training session where a trainer rates a horse for a mile distance at a certain time.  These two trips were the first warm up trip at two minutes and 35 seconds.  And then the final second trip, which was about forty minutes later at a time of 2 minutes and 20 seconds.

There is always hope in March

Last training trips for my 3 year old home bred trotting colt before his spring qualifier and the start of his 3 year old racing season. This is a long video that includes the two warmup jog miles then both training trips. First trip in 2:35 the second was in 2:22. Unfortunately we made a break in the last turn, but it was my fault and not his. This horse has more desire than athletic ability… lets see how he does this year.
